Thomas G. Erikson, 72, of Hamilton, NJ passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021 with his wife beside him at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton, NJ. Tom worked for Johnson & Johnson for many years before retiring and creating a small business, which he ran together with his wife.
He was born in Newark, NJ and lived most of his life in East Windsor with his loving wife of 35 years, before moving to Hamilton two years ago. In both homes, Tom found communities of friends and support- communities that brought many days of conversation, companionship and laughter. His family is so grateful for the decades of friendships he built in East Windsor and continue to be thankful for his new friends, who made his residence in Hamilton feel like home.
While New Jersey was always his home base, a part of his heart was always in Florida, where he vacationed with his family twice a year. The countless memories created at the Disney Parks and Universal will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
Family was extremely important to Tom, who had a passion for history and a deep respect for his roots. A genealogist by hobby, Tom spent much of his retirement tracing his family tree back hundreds of years, connecting long-lost relatives around the world through his letters. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Ferdinand and Josephine, and his brothers, Joe and Jim. He is survived by his wife, Charlene Erikson, brother, Bob and his wife Joanne, Sister-in-law, Sandy, as well as his
children, Edward Erikson and his wife Christine, Kathryn Levanda and her husband Joseph, Valerie Erikson, and Karl Erikson and his wife Caroline. Tom was so thankful for the time he spent with his children and his grandchildren, Matthew and Grace Levanda, Eddie, Benjamin and Henry Erikson and Tabitha Hoats. He continues to be loved deeply by his many nieces and nephews.
Tom was diagnosed with ALS in 2018, a circumstance that he met with strength, grace, and dignity. His friends and family will remember him for many things, but his ability to live with great love and an enduring sense of humor during the hardest times will continue to be an inspiration. In lieu of flowers, those who would like to honor Tom’s life and memory are encouraged to donate to organizations working toward a cure for ALS. The ALS Center at Penn Medical Center was a direct source of treatment and support for the Erikson family. His team at Penn became family and we are incredibly thankful for the role they played in caring for Tom. Donations to the Penn Medical Center can be made here.
