Walter M. Disbrow

September 30, 1933 - March 15, 2025

Walter Mervyn Disbrow, 91, of Pen Argyl, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Walter was born and raised in Trenton, NJ, and later moved to the Poconos in Pennsylvania with his beloved wife, Eleanor, to build a life and raise their family. Tragically, Eleanor’s life was cut short in a motor vehicle accident. After laying her to rest in New Jersey, Walter chose to remain in the Poconos, dedicating himself to raising their seven children. He called the Poconos home for more than 50 years, building a life filled with love, resilience, and devotion to his family.

As a skilled mechanic, he dedicated many years to his trade before enjoying a well-earned retirement. Walter worked most of his life as a truck and bus technician. He was employed by Trenton Transit, Perawel Trucking and Scott Trucking, all of Trenton. He was also a proud veteran who honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy, the New Jersey National Guard, and the U.S. Army Reserves.

Walter found joy in the simple pleasures of life, spending his free time fishing, camping, and taking on various building and remodeling projects. Known for his craftsmanship and resourcefulness, he was always eager to lend a hand. His passion for family extended beyond the present, as he took great pride in researching his genealogy and preserving his family’s history.

He was predeceased by his parents, Walter Russell and Nettie (Betz) Disbrow; his beloved wife, Eleanor (Slota) Disbrow; eight siblings, Irene Disbrow, Gloria Schultz, Patricia Houck, Janet Bloniarz, Russell Disbrow, Ronald Disbrow, Theodore Disbrow, and James Disbrow; and two great-granddaughters, Anya Dziura and Isabella Grace Wolfe.

Left to cherish his memory are his seven children and their spouses: Debra (William) Wolfe, Kathleen (Gerald) Varner, Carolyn Peters (Timmy Kjar), Walter (Vangie) Disbrow, Dennis (Barry) Disbrow, Norman (Winda) Disbrow, and Michael (Wanda) Disbrow. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Disbrow; his sister, Darlene Hadley; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Buklad-Merlino Memorial Home, 2141 South Broad Street, Hamilton, NJ.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Hedwig Roman Catholic Church, 872 Brunswick Ave., Trenton, NJ 08638.

Interment will follow at St. Hedwig Cemetery, 470 Eggerts Crossing Road, Ewing, NJ 08638.

Uncle Walt was a fantastic mechanic, great storyteller but most imortant he was a kind, humble, loving and caring man who touched our lives in many ways. Dawn considered Uncle Walt as her father and our children considered him to be a grandfather. We looked forward to his arrival from "up north" to be with Darlene. We spent many hours together working on cars and he loved working on the 1959 Cadillac. He took interest in our children and was always there to lend a hand. He will be sorely missed by us all and will always be in our thoughts and memories. Thank you Uncle Walt for all you brought to our family and home. You have…
