Sara Ann “Sallie” (Hauck) Dowd, of Groveville, died Friday, April 28, 2023, at home surrounded by loved ones. She was 93.
Born in Trenton, she was the daughter of the late William and Helen (Clancy) Hauck. Sara attended Cathedral Grammar School and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1947. She worked for the Department of Corrections for over 10 years. She was one of the original parishioners of St. Vincent de Paul Church where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She also volunteered at the Yardville Elementary School Library. She was a member of the Sons and Daughters of Erin and the Hamilton YMCA. She enjoyed spending time with her family, neighbors and friends from the YMCA and DOC, as well as traveling, reading and visiting restaurants.
In addition to her parents, Sara was predeceased by her husband, Edward W. Dowd, her son, Edward P. Dowd, and her brother, William Hauck. She is survived by her children, Mary Jane (Glenn) Northey, Kenneth (Donna) Dowd, and Kathleen Dowd; her grandchildren, Michelle (Ken) Torosian,
Kristin (Len) Bucchino, Erin (Ed Johnson) Northey, Dr. Kaitlin Northey, and Sean (Jaclyn) Dowd;
six great-grandchildren; her sister, Alice Devlin; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at
St. Vincent DePaul Church, 555 Yardville-Allentown Road, Yardville.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday morning, May 3, 2023, from
8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the Buklad-Merlino Yardville Memorial Home, 30 Yardville-Allentown
Road, Yardville.
Interment will follow in Crosswicks Cemetery.
