August 7, 1935 - July 19, 2021
Roger P. Henry, 85, of Hamilton, NJ, passed away peacefully, Monday, July 19, 2021, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton.
Born in Trenton, NJ he was a lifelong area resident. He retired from the Dept. of Transportation after many years of service.
Roger was a longtime parishioner and caretaker of Holy Angels Church. Over the years, he enjoyed all the little jobs that no one else enjoyed and did them happily. He donated his time and talents to Anchor House, Trenton, NJ, especially for their annual “Ride for Runaways”. He was an EMT and volunteer firefighter for Rusling Hose Fire Company and had great passion for all firefighters lost in the line of duty, especially during 911. His other passions included rescuing and nurturing feral kitties and “anything New York City”. Roger faithfully donated to a variety of “no kill shelters” and organizations that rescued animals from natural disasters. His love of NYC is widely known. His claim to fame is having seen “Phantom of the Opera” 25 times—with the play bills and ticket stubs to prove it. Lastly, Roger had a great love of family, was the family historian and will be remembered for his faithful care of those he loved and for being an altogether behind the scenes Good Samaritan. Roger is already greatly missed.
Roger’s only regret was that he wasn’t able to save more cats or go to NYC one more time.
Roger was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Mary (Henehan) Henry; his aunt, Sr. M. Symphorian Henehan, OSF (Aunt Toddy); siblings, Mary Morris, Kathleen Carey, Eddie, R. Donald, Charles and Robert (1 year) Henry. He is survived by his nieces and nephews and their families; Kathleen (Tom) Whalen of DE; Colleen (John) Cholowsky of NY; Maureen (Rudy) Hoffman of CA; Patrick (Marie) Carey of NY, Charles F. (Herm) Henry and his partner Jose Santana of FL; and Cathy Morris of Hamilton; his faithful kitty, “Mildred KC Henry”; dear friends Nancy, Pat, Chris and Andrea who lovingly cared for Roger for the last three years; his many friends at Holy Angels Church, especially Doris Angeline, as well as friends at Rusling Hose and Anchor House.
The family is most grateful to the staff at Care Street Home Care and Serenity Hospice for the love and care shown to Roger.
