Robert Earl Messersmith

March 15, 1930 - November 22, 2022

Robert “Bob” Earl Messersmith, DVM, 92 of Hamilton, passed away peacefully while in hospice care on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.


Born in Trenton, NJ he was raised in Hamilton and a graduate of Hamilton High West. He went on to study Veterinary Science at Cornell University, graduating in 1954 with a doctorate of veterinary medicine. After graduation, he met his future wife Leone and they settled in Lawrence Township, NJ to raise their family. Bob went on to work for Amos Stultz in Hopewell, American Cyanamid, and retired from Hoffman-La Roche in 1993.


Some of his passions included cars, especially Chevys, and antique clocks and watches.


Predeceased by his parents, Benjamin Kester Messersmith and Ruth Irene (Billmeyer) Messersmith, and his son-in-law David Carpenter; he is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Leone Ann (Aplin) Messersmith; his three daughters, Nancy Ann Carpenter, Karen Ruth (David) Harkin, and Linda Lee Esposti; his brother, James (Nancy) Messersmith; five grandchildren, Devon, Brandon (Yari) and Terence Carpenter, and Benjamin and Andrew Esposti; a great granddaughter, Daevany Carpenter; his son-in-law, Peter Esposti; one niece, Amy (John) Endler, and one nephew, Jon Messersmith.


Services were private and under the direction of the Buklad-Merlino Memorial Homes.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an animal charity of the donor’s choice in Bob’s memory.
