Mary H. Matthews

October 20, 1927 - June 30, 2024

Mary Helen Matthews, 96, of Yardville, New Jersey, passed into God's care at Serenity Hospice in Hamilton, on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

Born in Trenton, New Jersey, she resided in Yardville for over sixty years. Mary is predeceased by her parents, Francesco (Frank) Barsamela and Rosa Barsamela; her siblings, Theresa Giovannetti, Helen Persichetti, Josephine (Joann) Kerins, Giacomo (Jake) Barsamela, Angelo (Harry) Barsamilo, and Carmela (Millie) Mantuano. She is survived by her son, David Matthews and his wife, Alice, of Yardville, along with her many nieces and nephews, and their children.

Mary was born and raised in Trenton and attended Trenton schools. She moved to Yardville in 1963 where she raised her family. Mary was a member of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Raphael-Holy Angels parishes, where she attended church with family and friends. She worked many years at Trenton Folding Box and Switlik Parachute companies, as well as several other local factories.  She made friends with everyone she met and was loved by all.

Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and celebrating the many milestones in life, and always kept her mind active by doing word search puzzles and reading mystery novels.  She loved watching old movies and game shows. She also enjoyed many hours listening to music – Boots Randolph, Gina Lorne, Barbara Streisand, big bands and almost any Italian artists were among her favorites.

Her family would like to extend sincere thanks to the many members of the Serenity Hospice staff, in caring for Mary, both while she was at home and for her last days while in hospice. She loved all of the staff who visited and helped her.

In honor of Mary’s favorite color, we ask that you include something blue in your attire for the day of the funeral, if you’re able to attend.
