February 22, 1929 - November 13, 2023
Mary C. German, 94, of Manchester Twp., NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 13, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born and raised in Gastonia, North Carolina Mary was born into a large family consisting of eight girls and two boys. Mary was born the youngest of the girls and had a very close bond with all but especially her sisters. In later years they referred to themselves as the golden girls. Her sister Margie had given her the nickname “Tommy” which at 94 years young was still what many in the family still referred to her as. At a young age, Mary moved to the Trenton area with her sisters Edna and Will where she started her job at the Lenox plant in Trenton. At Lenox she would meet her future sister-in-law Marilynn who would set her up on a blind date with her older brother Harold who became the love of her life for 57 wonderful years.
Mary and Harold would have two children Harold “Sonny” German III and Janet Lynn Morgan. They raised their children in the house they built in Hamilton Square until they eventually retired in Cedar Glenn Lakes Community in Whiting NJ. During her lifetime as a Hamilton resident Mary and Harold built and Co-Owned Herms Trucking in Trenton NJ which was a family-owned logistics company that both of their children also participated in. She loved her family more than anything, and her world centered around them. She especially loved letting everyone know that she had 3 granddaughters, 8 great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter and was very proud of her large family. Mary was the matriarch of her family and also a bit of a prankster as she loved to surprise family members old and indoctrinate new with water fights at many a family gathering.
Predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary (Abernathy) Decker; her 9 siblings; and her loving husband, Harold T. German, Jr.; she is survived by her son Harold T. “Sonny” German, III and his fiancé, Debra Campolattaro and her, son Angel D Torres; her daughter, Janet Morgan and her husband James Morgan; 3 granddaughters, Lauren with husband, Steven Stanton, Amy Morgan, and Kaitlynn with husband, John Smolarek: 8 great grandchildren, Courtney with husband Nathan Uber, John, Kiersten, Layla, Wyatt, Declan, Ashlynn and Madelynn; one great-great granddaughter, Sophie; her beloved canine companion, Halee; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Condolences to Mary's family. I lived beside Mary for about 5 years in the summer and got to know and love her. She had a great sense of humor and you could always count on a laugh with her. When I sold and left, she ran over with a huge red geranium plant and stuck it in my trunk. I had that plant for quite a few years. Mary is a sweet memory to me....RIP dear lady....I'm sure we will meet again soon.
Mary has been my "sweet souther lady" neighbor for the last 15 years. We have spent many an hour sitting in rocking chairs on my front porch giggling and laughing like two young girls with Halee taking in every word. I will miss her terribly. There is a void in my life where she use to be. My deepest sympathies to Janet & Sonny and the rest of here family whom she talked about and loved very much.
