Livia M. Pontani

Livia M. Pontani, 71, of Hamilton Township, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at Serenity Hospice Inpatient Unit at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Hamilton.


Livia was born in Trenton NJ and spent many days of her youth in the Chambersburg section of Trenton. She was a descendent of Italian immigrants and loved her Italian heritage. She attended St. Joachim’s Grammar School, Cathedral High School, graduating in 1973. She attended St. Francis Medical Center School of Nursing and worked as a RN at St. Francis for 4 years. She made a career change and entered corporate America obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health and a Masters in Administration. She worked for 45 years as a senior leader in occupational safety, health, and risk management, finishing out her last 15 years in the gas and oil industry for Hess and Sunoco before retiring in 2019. She authored and published many articles on workplace safety and post incident cost containment. In addition, she was a speaker on these subjects at national, regional and local safety seminars. Her career enabled her to travel throughout USA and she came to understand the diversity and social tapestry that makes up the U.S.A.


In her spare time, she loved to sew, enjoyed spending time with family and dining with friends, traveling domestically and internationally, especially her annual summer vacations to Greece.


Predeceased by her grandparents, Paul and Sistilia Pontani, and Petro and Maria Eleuteri; her parents, Louis and Mary Pontani; her uncle, Joseph (Barbara) Ferrante, their children, Msgr.  Joseph Ferrante and Larry Ferrante; and her fur baby, November Pumpkin Pontani.


She is survived by her siblings, Paul (Carolyn) Pontani, Peter (Louise) Pontani and her dear twin sister, Linda (Jay) Frascella; first cousins Nancy (Earl) Brancolino; nieces and nephew; Louis Pontani, Tara (Kyle) Schad, Jennifer (Jonothan) Stone, Andrea (Brian) Newman, Dana (Rob) Cortina; great nephews and nieces, Kasey, Jackson, Carson, Stella, Ryan and Sistilia;  as well as many dear cousins, friends, and her significant partner, Richard Conte.


A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at  Our Lady of the Angel Parish at St. Joachim Church, 20-56 Butler Street, Trenton, NJ 08611.


Visitation for family and friends will be held prior to mass from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Entombment will follow in the family mausoleum in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Livia’s name may be made to any reputable animal shelter or to a charity of your choice.


Arrangements are under the direction of the Buklad-Merlino Memorial Homes, Hamilton.
