Ligia Perez De Velez

January 26, 1929 - November 2, 2022

Ligia Pérez De Vélez, de 93 años, de Princeton, falleció el miércoles 2 de Noviembre de 2022 en Penn Medicine en Princeton Healthcare Center.


Nacida en Sopetran, Colombia, llegó a los Estados Unidos en 1986 para ayudar a su hija, Farney, a criar a su familia. Ligia disfrutaba de cualquier cosa dulce, incluyendo cualquier tipo de postres y frutas. Le gustaba coser y hacer croche y en sus últimos años le gustaba colorear libros para colorear. Era una bailarina de cumbia a la que le encantaba personalizar sus atuendos. Ella siempre decía: "Hay que envejecer con gracia".


Prefallecida por sus padres, Andrés y Eloisa (Sevillano) Pérez; su esposo Mario Vélez; su hijo, Carlos Mario Vélez; y sus muchos hermanos, le sobreviven su hija y su yerno, Farney y Andrés De Jesús; hijos y nueras; Guillermo y Ana Vélez, y Henry y Marta Vélez; su hermana, Blanca Pérez; su nieta especial, Diana Montoya-Vélez y su esposo, Jonathan Flores; sus bisnietos, Jaiden Flores e Isabella De Jesús; así como muchos otros nietos, sobrinas, sobrinos, primos, otros familiares y queridos amigos, tanto en los Estados Unidos como en Colombia.


La misa de entierro cristiano se celebrará el martes 8 de Noviembre de 2022 a las 10:00 a.m. en la Catedral de Santa María de la Asunción, 151 North Warren Street, Trenton, NJ 08608.


Las visitas para familiares y amigos se llevarán a cabo desde las 9:00 a.m. hasta la hora de la misa en la Iglesia.


No habrá horario de llamadas en la funeraria.


El entierro seguirá en el cementerio de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, Hamilton.


Los arreglos están bajo la dirección del Buklad-Merlino Memorial Home, Hamilton.

Ligia Perez De Velez, 93, of Princeton, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Penn Medicine at Princeton Healthcare Center.


Born in Sopetran, Colombia, she came to the United States in 1986 to help her daughter, Farney raise her family. Ligia enjoyed anything sweet, including any types of cakes and fruit. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, and in her later years she liked to color in coloring books. She was a sassy salsa dancer who loved to accessorize her outfits. She would always say “There is no point in aging if you don’t age with grace.”


Predeceased by her parents, Andres and Eloisa (Sevillano) Perez; her husband Mario Velez; her son, Carlos Mario Velez; and her many siblings, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Farney and Andres De Jesus; sons and daughters-in-law; Guillermo and Ana Velez, and Henry and Marta Velez; her sister, Blanca Perez; her special granddaughter, Diana Montoya-Velez and her husband, Jonathan Flores; her great grandchildren, Jaiden Flores and Isabella De Jesus; as well as many other grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends, both in the U.S and Colombia.


Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption, 151 North Warren Street, Trenton, NJ 08608.


Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of the mass at the Church.


There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.


Burial will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Hamilton.


Arrangements are under the direction of the Buklad-Merlino Memorial Home, Hamilton.
