Jan Steven Aker, 76, of Trenton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Capital Health Systems at Fuld, Trenton, NJ.


Born in Trenton and raised in Yardville, Jan was a lifelong area resident and a proud graduate of Hamilton High School West. Following his education, he answered the call to serve his country and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after serving during the Vietnam War.


After returning home, Jan began a long and fulfilling career with Kmart, where he worked for more than 25 years and retired as Assistant Manager. Known for his strong work ethic, patience, and friendly demeanor, he earned the respect and friendship of both coworkers and customers alike.

In his free time, Jan found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved tending to his garden, working in his yard, and spending time outdoors surrounded by nature. His keen eye for beauty extended into his love of photography, through which he captured the world’s small wonders and everyday moments.


Predeceased by his parents, Earl W. and Jannie V. (Rzysmek) Aker; he is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Robin (Nielson) Aker; his son, John Bontya; a brother, Kim Aker;  a granddaughter, Valerie Flores-Bontya; as well as many friends.


Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Buklad-Merlino Yardville Memorial Home, 30 Yardville-Allentown Road, Yardville, NJ. with a prayer service beginning at 12:30 p.m.


Burial with honors will take place immediately following at the Brig. General Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, North Hanover Twp., NJ 08562.
