James R. Clugsten, Sr., 79, of New Gretna, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Pomona.
Born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, James was raised in the Trenton area. Upon his marriage to the love of his life, Kathleen, the couple made their home on the family farm in Cranbury, where together they lovingly raised their six children. They later settled in Hamilton Township, where they spent many happy years before James most recently resided in New Gretna.
James found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a passion for woodworking and photography, enjoyed camping trips with his family, and looked forward each year to the family's friendly chili cook-offs. A devoted Philadelphia Phillies fan, he could often be found cheering on his favorite team. Above all else, James treasured the time he spent with his family. His greatest happiness came from being surrounded by those he loved, creating lasting memories that will be cherished for generations.
He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Robert M. and Mae O. Clugsten; his two sons, Daniel and Michael Clugsten; and his brothers, Robert and Louis Clugsten.
James leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Kathleen A. (Jones) Clugsten; his four loving children, James R. Clugsten, Jr., Laura Marie Clugsten, Matthew Clugsten and Ashley Valentino, Katie Clugsten, and David Kovacs; his daughter-in-law, Alicia Clugsten; three siblings, Wayne C. Clugsten and his wife, Tracy L. Hutton, Theresa Clugsten-Gallo and her husband, Stefan Gallo, and David Clugsten; 15 cherished grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening, July 2, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Buklad-Merlino Yardville Memorial Home, 30 Yardville-Allentown Road, Yardville. A brief prayer service will be held at 8 p.m.
Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
