Heriberto “Eddie” Nieves, 59, of Perth Amboy, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Serenity Hospice Inpatient Unit at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Hamilton, NJ, surrounded by his loving family.


Born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Eddie moved to Trenton, NJ, in 1970 and was a longtime area resident before settling in Perth Amboy in 1997. A skilled Union Carpenter and Contractor, he also owned and operated his own business, Nieves Home Improvements. Eddie was creative and hardworking, and in his free time he enjoyed drawing, the arts, restoring cars, and building model cars. He also loved amusement parks, swimming, and spending time outdoors. Known as a true junk food lover, he had a weakness for chocolate and a fierce sweet tooth. Above all, family was at the center of Eddie’s life. He cherished every moment spent with them, especially his beloved grandchildren.


Eddie was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.


Predeceased by his father, Jose L. Nieves, he is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Nina (Perkins) Nieves; his mother, Crucita Vasquez; his three children, Ashley (Mark) Hersh, Jessica Nieves, and Avery Nieves; siblings, Renaldo Nieves, Blanca Nieves, Maribel Nieves, Johanna (Willis) Jolley, Alex Nieves, and Joselito Nieves; grandchildren, Anjalee Hersh and Benjamin Hersh; his godson, Jose J. Rodriguez; a favorite nephew, Antonio Ortiz; his original niece, Joanna Garcia; as well as many other relatives and dear friends.


Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Buklad-Merlino Memorial Home, 2141 South Broad Street, Hamilton, NJ.


Prayer services will begin at 1:00 p.m.


Burial will take place privately at the convenience of the family.
