Helen Ruth O'Brien

April 25, 1925 - January 6, 2025

Helen Ruth O’Brien, 99, of Bordentown, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Serenity Hospice Inpatient Unit at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Hamilton surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Trenton, NJ she was a lifelong area resident. Helen, who was affectionately known as Ruth, was employed with ACME Markets on South Broad Street in Hamilton for more than 30 years before her well earned retirement. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life but it was always the time spent with her family that she held closest to her heart.

Ruth was the epitome of gentleness, kindness and thoughtfulness. She had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel special, always ready with a word of encouragement or a listening ear. Her love was unconditional and she was always there for those that needed her offering support, guidance, and most of all her presence.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Hugh and Helen (Schwartz) Morrison; beloved husband, Frank J. O’Brien; and her son-in-law, Thomas Szombaty; she is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Patricia Szombaty, and Christine and Bob Haggerty; grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer) Haggerty, Megan (Jim) DeMaise, Jeffrey (Samantha) Szombaty, Michael Szombaty (Kate Flamard) and Kevin (Aliyah) Haggerty; 7 great grandchildren, Sean, Allison, Gracie, James, Aidan, Oliver and Wyatt.

All services are private and under the direction of the Buklad-Merlino Memorial Homes, Hamilton.
