Helen McElwee

Helen McElwee, 92, of Mount Holly, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April15, 2026 at Hamilton Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by the love of her family.

 

Born and raised in Mt. Carmel, Pennsylvania, Helen, along with her late husband, Ray, moved to Trenton, New Jersey and then to Yardville, New Jersey, where they raised their family.  Helen moved to Mt. Holly, New Jersey after the sale of her Yardville home.  Most recently, she lived at Samuel Miller Housing.

 

Helen was a devoted homemaker who took great pride in caring for those she loved. She enjoyed cooking for all the holidays, and spending time with her family. In her spare time, she liked to take trips to Atlantic City and Parx Casino in Bensalem, PA.  She also like to spend time doing crossword puzzles and playing Bingo.  She especially looked forward to playing Bingo once a month on Wednesday night when the Women’s League of Mt. Holly would come to Samuel Miller and host Bingo games for the residents. 

 

Predeceased by her parents, Michael and Helen (Walchko) Messarge; siblings, Michael Messarge and Margaret Messarge; her granddaughter Mikayla McElwee, and her beloved husband, Raymond I. McElwee.  She is survived by her loving children, Karen (Drew) Arizini, Thomas McElwee, Donna McElwee, and Raymond (Lisa) McElwee; sisters, Marie Burtis, and Agnes (Richard) Janas; grandchildren, Ashley (Stephen) Fox, Jacob McElwee, Allison (Drew) Barth, Michael (Margarite) McElwee, Lainie McElwee, Brittany Landry (Sean Gardea), Stephanie (Samer) Ksaibati, and Crystal Weisgerber; great grandchildren, Noah McElwee, Jayce, Zayden, and Koah Gardea, and Ayden and Hudson Ksaibati; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. 

 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, at the Buklad-Merlino Yardville Memorial Home, 30 Yardville-Allentown Road, Yardville, NJ 08620.

 

Burial of cremated remains will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ.

Ms Helen I still can’t believe you are gone. It was my pleasure working with you. I will miss you dearly. I know you are in the hands of God right now no more pain no more suffering continue resting in the bottom of the Almighty.

Will never forget the many afternoons spent at mam mams watching the soaps or price is right, making puzzles, or playing scrabble. She was the best 💗
