Donald Schaeffer, 73, of Hamilton passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at Arcadia Nursing Home with his loving family by his side.
Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong Hamilton area resident.
An Army Reserve Veteran of the 445th Ordinance, Donald along with his father owned and operated Schaeffer Machine Shop and Bunting Machine Shop in Trenton. He was a member of the Society of Manufacturer Engineers; he also was involved in the mentoring program for the Mercer County Vocational School. A beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, Donald loved spending time with his family, especially family vacations. In his spare time, he was a Corvette enthusiast and avid Phillies and Eagles fan. He also enjoyed bowling with different leagues in the Hamilton area.
Son of the late George and Lillie Schaeffer, grandson of the late Claire Thiele, he is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Gretchen “Marguerite” Bauer Schaeffer; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Tina Dennis and her husband Dennis, and Erica Schaeffer-Palaschak and her husband Glenn Palaschak; sister and brother-in-law, Claire and Bill Holt; two granddaughters, Bianca and Fiona Dennis; cousins Jack Polak, Patricia Martin and her husband Marty, as well as many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Relatives and friends may attend a visitation on Sunday, October 28, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Buklad Memorial Home, 2141 South Broad Street in Hamilton. The funeral will be held 11 a.m. on Monday at the memorial home with local clergy officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
